This is so true. Having a website does not necessarily mean instant success for your business. A physical store-front is often dependent upon location - location - location. You have to devise ways to get the customer to your store, whether it be in a physical location or online.

    • use of webpage titles
    • search engine submissions
    • search engine pages (example: ror)
  • Frequent updates
  • Using third party webtools
  • Quality linking to other sites
  • Getting listed in relevent online directories
  • Incorporating website in all marketing efforts
  • BRAG - include accomplishments & testimonials
  • Networking with Social Media (example: Facebook)
  • Advertise your affiliations & memberships (example: BBB)
  • Link to your site with all your advertising campaigns
  • Build online stores linked back to your site. Suggested stores:
    • Google Product Search
    • Yahoo Stores
    • Kijiji
    • eBay
    • Etsy
  • Submit articles showing your expertise for publication
Keep in mind that search engines are finicky! What they like today, they may not like tomorrow, but they may like again the next day. Have your site designed, optimized, maintained and updated by a quality webmaster who can create a site good for the long term.
